(20 August 2024) — On Tuesday, September 3, at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan, Naoya “The Monster” Inoue will defend his unchallenged super bantamweight title for the second time against TJ Doheny, the former world champion.

Beginning at 2:30 a.m. ET, this unique five-fight spectacular will be streamed live and exclusively on ESPN+ in the United States.

In the co-feature, former WBC flyweight champion Daigo Higa (21-2-1, 19 KOs) will challenge WBO bantamweight world champion Yoshiki Takei (9-0, 8 KOs) for his maiden title defense.

Ariake Arena has been the home of boxing for Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs), the four-division world champion and pound-for-pound staple, in recent years. It’s the arena where he defeated then-undisputed super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton in July 2023, stopped Paul Butler to win the undisputed bantamweight world title in December 2022, and defeated Marlon Tapales over ten rounds to become the undisputed super bantamweight king in December of last year. Doheny (26-4, 20 KOs) has a perfect record of 4-0 when competing in Japan, which includes his May knockout of Bryl Bayogos at Tokyo Dome during the Inoue-Luis Nery undercard.

Andy Hiraoka (23-0, 18 KOs) vs. Ismael Barroso (25-4-2, 23 KOs), 12 Rounds, Junior Welterweight: The 41-year-old puncher from Venezuela, Barroso, makes a comeback after knocking off Ohara Davies in the first round in January. The Japanese sensation Hiraoka, who defeated Sebastian Diaz Maldonado via fifth-round TKO on the undercard of Inoue vs. Tapales last December, makes his debut in 2024.

Twelve-round bout between Jin Sasaki (17-1-1, 16 KOs) and Qamil Balla (15-1-1, 8 KOs), Welterweight: Action hero Sasaki has defeated his last five opponents and is currently ranked No. 2 in the WBO rankings. After losing to fellow Australian George Kambosos Jr. on a decision, Balla has won four straight matches.

Japanese Super Bantamweight Title fight between Toshiki Shimomachi (18-1-3, 12 KOs) and Ryuya Tsugawa (13-1, 9 KOs), ten rounds: With 19 wins in a row, Shimomachi is making his third defense of the Japanese title. Tsugawa, a knockout artist, has won nine straight fights, eight of them via stoppage.
